Catalog Description: An introductory study of public speaking with frequent participation. Focus is on the different types of public speeches and the research, organizational, and delivery skills needed to present them effectively. (This course will fulfill the speech requirement for the A.A. degree.) (Some sections may be required to purchase one 1/2 inch VHS video cassette for use in class.)
Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to research and prepare a speech.
  • Students will be able to present a speech to an audience.
  • Students will be able to evaluate their own presentations and the presentations of others.
  • Students will demonstrate application of communication theory in presentations and evaluations.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to adapt presentations within differing contexts and to differing audiences.
