Catalog Description: Designed to improve communication in individual settings with family members, co-workers, friends, and acquaintances. Focus is on the factors which influence our communication behaviors. (This course will fulfill the speech requirement for the A.S. and the A.A.S. degrees but will not fulfill the speech requirement for the A.A. degree.)
Outcomes:
  • Students will demonstrate understanding of basic interpersonal communication theory.
  • Students will analyze their own communication habits and behaviors in interpersonal situations.
  • Students will synthesize information from readings, lecture and course activities.
  • Students will recognize and evaluate their own assumptions and biases regarding the communication behavior of others.
  • Students will participate actively in small and large group activities and exercises.
