This course cover the nuts and bolds of a law
office and is truly for students who are beginning in the paralegal
field. Student may visit a law office, enjoy guest speakers, and
prepare for a mock trial.

| Catalog Description: |
Examines the general practices of the law office.
This course is designed for students who have had no experience
working in a legal office. Topics covered include ownership and
management patterns that exist among lawyers in various forms of
practice, legal ethics, law office personnel, law office technology,
law office marketing and long-range planning, law office systems,
law office financial and document management, and docket control
systems. |
| Outcomes: |
Students will be able to:
- Explain, analyze and evaluate the organization, management and
operation of a law office.
- Recall, interpret and analyze the basic rules of legal
professional responsibility, ethics, confidentiality, and risk
management.
- Explain how the law office operates, including the areas of human
resources, practice development, legal advertising, and financial
management.
- Describe and interpret the use of substantive and administrative
systems, office automation, and records, files and library
management.
- Explain, organize and apply the use of law office technology
including legal research systems, email, and the Internet.
