Remote Access to Files and Applications
Secure File Transfers -- SFTP (students and employees)
Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) is the service used to access network folders from off campus or from a campus wireless connection. An SFTP client application is used to establish an encrypted connection between your computer and the file server. The most common network folders on the campus file servers are accessible: individual folders--Z drive, institutional/group folders--J drive, faculty and student group web site folders. You can use SFTP to do typical file and folder tasks.
Terminal Server (employees only)
When licensing allows, applications are installed on the college Terminal Server to provide secure off-campus access so employees can run applications while off campus. A VPN session must be established to open a Terminal Server session. When a Terminal Server session is open, all the desktop computer is doing is relaying keyboard, mouse and display information between the server and the PC you are operating.
It is a good idea to practice using Terminal Server while on campus when technical assistance is available before trying it off campus.
Requests to install applications onto the Terminal Server can be sent to Tech Support (support@inverhills.edu).
