Welcome to Student Success Day (SSD)! One day per semester, almost all classes are changed, 8 am to 7 pm, to SSD events (exceptions). On this day, you may meet with your teachers, attend sessions, hear a keynote speaker, and eat free. You also may go to SSD Online anytime to find over one thousand virtual SSD sessions. Discover how to be more successful--as a student and person--whether you are starting college, focusing on a major, or working toward a career. The next SSD is
GENERAL ON-CAMPUS SCHEDULE SUMMARY:
A detailed schedule will go up on
Keynote Speaker:
10 AM, 11:15 AM, 2 PM, & 6 PM
SSD features the following events:
Ryan: You know, for the most part it’s a lot of just my peer group. I’m 25 years old, and when I refer to my peer group, I refer to a lot of young adults, college students in particular. I work with them on a daily basis.... I love to bring people that kind of experience, that kind of conversation, that kind of speech, that kind of anything that allows students to say ‘This is who I am, this is what I’m all about, and I’m okay with that, I’m confident about that, and I’m moving my life forward with that new attitude and that new mentality. Toni: Give me an example of what happens during that transaction. Ryan: Over the course of a two-day leadership training, these students go from shy and quiet to getting outside their comfort zones, standing up for who they are, speaking up for who they are, and just taking on opportunities at a much higher level than they ever thought possible. Because they’re unleashing their potential, they’re unleashing who they are as individuals, and they’re finally giving themselves permission to be themselves in a comfortable way in which they’re confident about who they are. That’s really what I love to do. I love to bring people that kind of experience, that kind of conversation, that kind of speech, that kind of anything that allows students to say “This is who I am, this is what I’m all about, and I’m okay with that, I’m confident about that, and I’m moving my life forward with that new attitude and that new mentality.” Toni: With that new attitude and mentality, how do you think that helps them to further explore that potential within them? Ryan: There’s a lot more risk taking.... One of my proudest things is when the students just finally take action. I get emails or phone calls from students saying, you know, “I finally did this. I finally did that. The results weren’t anything like what I was afraid they would be.” That’s kind of the phenomenal aspect of what I love to do. |

On SSD, almost all classes on campus are changed to SSD events. However, a few are not. The following meet as usual:
(2) Accelerated courses (3) Fully-online classes (4) A few technical classes requiring a preset number of training hours also may meet as usual (5) Any classes taught by another school in IHCC buildings
All other classes are changed on SSD to SSD events, and the rooms may be used for SSD purposes. Teachers may also cancel a class earlier or later in the same week and ask you to attend SSD instead--either on campus or at the Web site SSD Online. |
