COLLEGE LAB ASSISTANT 2 – NURSING (Seasonal)

Inver Hills Community College seeks a College Laboratory Assistant 2 for its Nursing and Nursing Assistant-Registered Programs.

Application Deadline:  August 5, 2008 or Until Filled

Appointment:  Seasonal Part-Time (.70 FTE) Please note: we are also posting a CLA 2 in Nursing as an intermittent position. The incumbent is expected to work in the seasonal position during an academic year and in the intermittent position during summers.

Pay:  $14.97 - $15.68, depending on qualifications

Work Schedule:      Monday & Wednesday; 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

                                    Thursdays & Friday; 8:00 am – 3:30 pm

NOTE:  This position will require the incumbent to have a flexible schedule as the hours of work are subject to change from semester to semester.

Responsibilities: Provide lab assistance to the Nursing Program and Nursing Assistant-Registered Program, instructors and students. To oversee and coordinate lab assistance for certification exams provided through customized training for the NA-R and Emergency Health Services (EHS) Program.

  • Supervise and assist students with nursing skills;
  • Monitor students carrying out lab assignments;
  • Act as a teaching assistant and provide instruction and oversight of students during supervised practice and open lab;
  • Meet with instructors to identify required preps, lab set-ups, equipment availability and clean-up after labs are completed;
  • Monitor student progress and give feedback to nursing faculty;
  • Provide logistical coordination of nursing skill test outs (practicum exams);
  • Perform Nursing lab setup and cleanup;
  • Maintain, repair and secure lab equipment;
  • Inventory and order supplies and equipment;
  • Assist with marketing and promotion efforts on and off campus.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate or higher degree in Nursing AND one (1) academic year of teaching/tutoring experience in Nursing at the high school level or above; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

 

  • The ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RN or LPN or allied health position;

  • Knowledge of basic concepts and practices within health care field;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Motivation and desire to help students learn nursing skills;
  • Experience working with students with learning disabilities, students of color, non-traditional students, and under-prepared students.
