Meet Rob Harris

What do you like most about being a Counselor at IHCC?
I firmly believe that a higher education provides opportunity and opens many doors to a bright and promising future. As a counselor, many students allow me to help them grow and reach their goals. I appreciate the opportunity to play such a role in their lives.
What is your favorite career related website?
There are many excellent websites out there and I am constantly finding new ones. Most recently I have found an excellent site that helps you link majors and careers through the University of Texas called "What can I do with a major in?" What Can I Do with a Major In? - University of Texas, Austin
Tell me a little known fact about you...
I lost four teeth while playing broom ball! Also, I ate beetles while visiting China and they were pretty tasty!
What is the best career planning advice you have heard?
Don't pursue an occupation or major because it is popular or pays well. Following your interests and dreams will be more fulfilling than a high salary.
If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming IHCC student, what would it be?
Don't let the advertisers of America influence your financial decisions. Live simply while you are in school so you can afford things in the future. Ask yourself if you really need a new car with high payments or if you could live with an old beater until you get through school. Delaying that impulse for instant gratification will prove to be the most beneficial in the future.
What are your professional areas of interest?
I enjoy helping people with their career plan.
