Identify your dream career and vigorously pursue the education, training and experiences to obtain it.

I lived in Virginia and plan to retire there.


What is the best career planning advice you have heard?

Don’t pursue someone else’s dreams. Live your own.


What are your professional areas of interest?

Assessment, work-life balance, stress management, experiential learning opportunities.


What was a defining moment in your professional career and how did it impact you?

When I was in an unsatisfying job, a colleague asked me, “Mike, are you learning?” He crystallized what is one of my life forces and made me realize that it is a work need for me. Without learning interesting things at work, I get very restless, bored, and unhappy.

Tennis, reading, Southern cooking, old men’s (over 35) baseball, hanging out with my dogs

Head to my favorite coffee shop and surf the Internet.

What is your favorite thing to do on a cold snowy day?

Fly out of Minnesota to southern California.

What is your favorite thing to do on a warm sunny day?

Walk my Lab/German Pointer dog (Paige)

What is your favorite childhood memory?

Twins game on Bat Day when I was 9.

Where did you grow up?

New Ulm, MN until I was 11 and then moved to the Twin Cities. I will always consider myself a small town kid. New Ulm started my love for baseball and I played it constantly as a kid. The town is still a baseball paradise and has one of the best kept amateur stadiums around.
