Prep Room Home

Welcome to the home page for the IHCC Biology Prep Room. Take a look at What's New in our web. This page has been created in the hope that it could be used for communication and Departmental files of all kinds. If for any reason, you think you may be here in error, you are, there is no class files of any sort, nor strictly speaking any educational tools of any kind.

The Prep Pages is our attempt to create an internal documentation for our prep that will allow both instructors and lab staff to alter the prep manuals "on the fly". It is hoped that by web enabling the prep manuals, that they will stay up to date and allow for changes and clarification to be added at any point.

The pages for the prep manual are all in the experimental stage right now and with the shift coming in the Fall Semester to the new Palm based stuff, many classes will be changing, and thus the preps will as well. For now to access the prep pages hit the Prep Manual link to the left.

What's New

The following is a list of recent additions to our web. Whenever we publish a paper, write a specification, submit a status report, or add any other drivel, nonsense, or cool web links to our web, we'll put a notice here, much to your chagrin. Every month we'll remove the oldest items. The most recent changes are listed first, and each item is linked to the page with the updated content if needed.

3/3/03

  •  Ok, so maybe back to the Blog was a bit optimistic. Sigh. I hope to do better.
  • Well we have two student workers - that is a good thing. We also have a (*GASP*) volunteer! We are having her build us a few terrariums for sprucing up the Department a bit. So far so good.
  • It seems we have gotten a grant from a local company, this is a good thing as well, we may actually be able to afford a larger autoclave - who would have guessed.

1/14/03

  • Back to the Blog!! After the longest time I will be able to blog a bit more. Woot!
  • New blades in the scalpels. Be careful.
  • Both Autoclaves are still down...the germs are assessing their options at the bargaining table.
  • Dishes are getting done - Whew! Because the dishwasher is working
  • We may have a new student worker, we should know more tomorrow.

12/29/02

  • Hope you are having a good break. Been killing germs, ignoring the dishes and oh, yes, redoing the room use charts.
  • Stuff was moved to the old Blog page. Where old blogs go to, die and fester I guess, ew.

11/19/02

  • Budget stuff is getting looked at at noon tomorrow, be there or be polygonal.
  • The class pages are up to date, or so I think, let me know what you think of the A&P pages' backgrounds, no really - I can take it.
  • Tech pages are updated -what are you waiting for? Go take a look!

11/14/02

  • Found a cool web site Biology4kids, admittedly it is pitched a bit below our level, but it might be helpful to some students for basic review.
  • I have been trying to get the class pages up after much neglect. One thing that I have emplaced is a link to an old syllabus, and a link to links. I know that many of you have links in your class pages for your students - would you care to share those? If so send them to me and I will post them up, thanks.
  • Also, if you have an original picture that I could put onto the web page for the individual classes, such as 1154, please send it my way. I am looking for non-copyrighted works that do not have people in them.

11/12/02

  • This Day In Biology:
    • Louis Pasteur, feeling not so well on this day November 11, 1861  finds fuzz on his sandwich, he eats it anyway, and feels better about a week to ten days better after a regimen of fuzzy sandwiches.
  • Ok, glad I got that off of my chest - on to serious business.

11/5/02

  • Ug, a month since the last update - how very ugly, lets fix that shall we?
  • We got a new fridge yesterday, it is big, cold - and wet? (its a Dog Nose brand). Hopefully it can be emplaced and plugged in today, finally we don't have to tape the door shut. It also is beginning to resemble a laboratory in here.
  • My next suggestion was for a heavy digital balance (think kilos) and a new bigger autoclave (the brown one, being sterile, should be put out to pasture).
  • A very cool thing is being done involving some major universities, the actual site for the it is here. Basically it involves putting a TON of course content from such places as MIT, Cambridge, Columbia, Cornell ... (you get the idea) on-line. This repository has a chance of being absolutely huge. This is a definite "must see" - go take a look.
  • As of this writing the vote is 1 thumb down : 0 thumbs up for the cabinets. And as today is the day to get out and vote, cast yours in this election of ours, where all the candidates are dirty, broken down, and in need of a congressional inquiry.
  • Updated Hand to Hand for Heidi, for 2205, and eliminated Mitosis from 1154 prep.
  • Which brings up another point labs that are in activated will now be placed in the inactivated Labs folder next to the rest of the prep folders. This is where the old 2205 stuff went in case you are looking for it.
